Luke Davis

Luke Davis is excited to enter his third year working with the bands of Teays Valley Local Schools as an Assistant Director and Percussion Specialist. Prior to coming to Teays Valley, Mr. Davis worked with bands throughout Ohio and Illinois, most recently serving as Percussion Director for the Urbana Tiger Marching Band in Urbana, Illinois and as a percussion instructor for the Miamisburg High School Marching Band in Miamisburg, Ohio. Originally from Dayton, Mr. Davis earned his bachelor’s degree in Musicology and Percussion Performance from Miami University where he was recognized as the Miami University Outstanding Music Scholar in 2010. Davis then earned a Master’s Degree in Ethnomusicology from Bowling Green State University in 2012 before going to the University of Illinois with his future wife to begin Doctoral work in Jazz Performance for Drum Set. With Doctoral course work complete, Mr. Davis began pursuing his second Master’s Degree in Music Education and Illinois State Certification which he is completing at this time.

Having taught young musicians for the past 13 years as well as having written music for competitive percussionists and marching bands throughout that time, Mr. Davis is thrilled to have joined the Golden Sound musical family and looks forward to developing the students of Teays Valley in their musical pursuits.

Luke Davis is an Innovative Percussion Educational Artist as well as a member of the Percussive Arts Society, National Association for Music Education, and the Society of Ethnomusicology.
